The Sanyo VPC-HD1 HD camcorder definitely turned heads when it came out, but as time went on the reviews began to take their toll. Videomaker’s Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1 review is probably the most positive review I’ve seen so far.
However, Videomaker’s review sees the Sanyo HD1 as a SD resolution digital camcorder first, and an HD camcorder second. They found that the color accuracy was good, but in low light the camcorder suffered. The sharpness of the picture was also not up to par with other camcorders. They make a good point that the Sanyo HD1’s sub-$800 price range makes it a good camcorder for the money. With the next step up of HD camcorders costing around twice as much, you definitely get what you pay for.
